Vintage Bow Machine

Back in the early 1960s, my father (Richard Brown) designed the bow machine shown here (not for sale, sorry) while living in La Habra, California, and working in a machine shop. This is still housed in the original wood case.

This particular machine is stamped Patent Applied For and TR-4N 515. Texlon Corporation out Dallas, Texas (who supplied the Tex-Sheen ribbon used with this machine) applied for the patent.

My grandmother, Olga, made the bow umbrella
using this machine back in 1969 for a friend's shower.

Jack Daniels Bread Pudding

Took a break today to make a delicious Jack Daniels bread pudding. A dear friend shared this fabulous recipe:

6 eggs (whipped)
2-1/4 cups sugar
3 teaspoons vanilla
2-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
2-1/2 teaspoons nutmeg
1 stick butter (melted)
4 cups milk
1/2 cup raisins
1 cup pecans
12 cups bread cubes

Add sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and butter to whipped eggs and beat the mixture. Add the milk, raisins, pecans and bread cubes.

Soak all together for 30 minutes.

Spray baking pan with no-stick cooking spray and pour in mixture.
Bake at 350 for 45 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.

SAUCE:
1 stick butter (melted)
2 cups dark corn syrup
1/2 cup Jack Daniels
1 tablespoon vanilla
1/4 cup sugar

Combine butter, corn syrup, Jack Daniels, vanilla and sugar.
Heat and allow to thicken to taste.

Makes 12 servings.

Ornaments, ornaments, ornaments!

Ornaments are such a fun item - they can bring back memories of childhood, start new traditions, make fantastic gifts for friends and family, and feed the need of collectors (I am so guilty of collecting wayyyy too many ornaments).

At Tennessee Antique Shack you'll find a wide variety of ornaments including Kliban's renown tabby cats; the Flintstones, Barbie, Avon teddy bears, Star Trek, Looney Tunes, American Greetings, Disney, and Hallmark Keepsake ornaments.
